Change visa in South Africa

I'm a chilean citizen therefore I don't need to apply for a tourist visa in order to enter South Africa. I only need my passport. However, I wonder, if on the way (while being over there) I decide I'd like to work or study over there, would I be able to change my status to a work or study permit while being in South Africa?

Hi

Yes, you are allowed to apply for a permit once in South Africa. Processing times at the moment can take a few months, so it may be better to apply in your home country.
