Paying bills in UK

I am scottish and I have recently moved to Cape Town to get married and am able to work. I do not have a bank account here as yet but still have one in the UK to pay my mortgage and some bills. My house is rented out but I still need to put money in my UK account to make up the shortfall. Does anyne know how I do this from South Africa? They seem to be very strict about money going out of the country and I am not sure how else I am going to be able to meet my monthly commitments unless I can transfer money from money I earn here. Thanks in advance

I'm not sure what your residence status is, but without a proper work or temporary resdence permit (i.e. NOT a Tourist Permit), your won't be able to open a bank account. As far as I know the act of simply marrying a South Africa does not confer residence or work rights in this country. I strongly suggest you take advice from an immigration professional. There are many, and they are mostly inexpensive (aside of course from the formal attorneys). You must ensure though that he is a Government certified Immigration Practitioner.

Once your legal status is established, and you have a bank account (will also require some FICA evidence), you will have no difficulty at all in transacting overseas.

Hi there
If you have a work permit, you can open a non-resident account that will be converted into a resident account once you begin earning in South African Rands. I have worked with FNB's non-resident bankin center and have found then to be very professional. Also, I work with an immigrations company that offers better forex rates than the banks. Let me know if you want their details.
