Shipping a UK vehicle to SA

Arriving in Cape Town, December 2014, under 4 year temporary retirement visa, as permanent residency permits cannot be applied for outside of SA. Question: Under my permit type can I import my car from the UK?? Appreciate Clarification.

Yes, but you'll need no end of paperwork and permits, and probably have to pay 100% Duty + VAT (14%) as a surety until you get your permanent residence. To be honest I wouldn't bother because the exchange rate is R18.00 to the £1 and you can get most vehicles over here. You will also find the shipping costs quite expensive. If you know what sort of vehicle you want, send me a note and I'll find out the price. As an example a Honda Jazz will cost you the equivalent of £9000.00 depending on the version.
