Hi:

Does anyone knows if a us tourist needs a Dr. prescription to purchase their daily medications in Spain?

Thanks, oakisland

Hi, Oakisland,

To be honest, that depends on your medications. When I arrived here, I had prescriptions from my doctor in the US and was able to obtain the medications I needed. When I went to a doctor here in Spain, I had him rewrite all of the prescriptions again using the hospital prescription paper, just in case. However, I found that all of my prescriptions are available over the counter, and much, much cheaper than my copay cost in the US.

Without knowing how long you will be here, it is probably wisest to get enough medication for your entire stay here. Separate the meds into two packages into two different luggage bags, in case one is lost, and clearly label everything. You CANNOT ship medications from other countries into Spain, even with the documentation inside the package that this is prescription medication.

Good luck!

cwells67:
I should also add that our meds are just for basic cholesterol & high blood pressure meds, nothing for major conditions.
Thanks again.
