Looking for tips on starting. Pretty clueless

I've been entertaining the idea of moving to Spain or Italy for years now without any serious movement. I'd like to start seeing if this is even realistically possible. I'm conversationally fluent in Spanish (which is why Spain is my #1 choice) and am halfway through a 2 year degree in a legal studies program at the moment (not much help outside the US or even my state beyond showing I learned solid research and office skills) and I wouldn't plan on moving until I have finished that. I have no loans or outstanding payments and a decent credit score. I work in a restaurant but after this next semester working in a law firm is plausible. I've just gotten serious about saving money, and have about 4000 in the bank right now. Depending on how much I work and how diligent I am about saving I could see myself with 10000 dollars in the bank by the end of the school year (pre summer)
Everywhere I've looked seems to say that a student visa is the easiest way to get a visa (not saying that's easy in itself) and I would like to go to school overseas, it seems a good way to get my foot in the door and make friends in a new place quickly as well as give me a sense of purpose to avoid wasting my time and money among all the new experiences. I currently pay for school myself because this was a condition to show my parents I could excel in school (and I have been, I nearly have perfect grades) and it has been discussed that they would pay for me or help me pay for later education depending on my performance this past year and next. Regardless I'm not looking to go to the most expensive school, more the equivalent to what a public low tier state university is here and in my quick research the other night costs seem to be even lower than what is available in the US.
I'm hoping someone here has similar experiences, knowledge of universities in Spain, and any and all tips would be welcomed by me. Thanks very much!
