I am due to retire in less than a year. I plan on traveling, and possibly staying in different locations for up to a month or more at a time. Spain is on my list of places to visit. That being said: Can someone tell me in general how likely it is to travel on a budget as far as hotels, apartahotels, local cuisine, etc... ? I realize, some places are cheaper than others, but I'm just trying to get a ballpark daily budget. I don't require fancy hotels, and tend to be drawn to the smaller basic places that are clean and safe. I speak pretty good Spanish and would prefer to stay off the beaten track and away from larger cities. That might serve to lower costs a little, right? I'm guessing that someone out there might be asking what that daily budget is---so lets say $50-$75 usd for starters. Is that reasonable, or laughable? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Just wondering if you have travelled very much before? You can research so much on the internet. For example look at booking.com or Airbnb for your accommodation costs. You might like a bed in a dorm or your own apartment and of course the prices range. Usually if you book something for a longer period you can get better value. Buses, trains and car hire prices are also on the internet. Also check Numbeo.com for comparisons between cities. But of course to live on between 50 and 75US $ can be done. People live on less. Some people earn only $1000 euro a month and they get by. Hope that helps you.

baklavaa,

I have traveled before, but never in Spain. My latin american experience has mostly been limited to Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, and Mexico. Taking note of my opening statement that I am due to retire---translates that I have been working for the last 40+ years and have not spent long periods of time in one place (except for 2 yrs in Germany in the service).
I was simply trying to get a feel for daily costs. I will check your recommendations before going---thanks for the input.
