Buying Property in Costa del Sol-NOW

Greetings all,

Well I'm now at the point where I'm prepared to buy a condo property somewhere around Benalmadena to Fuengirola. I'm from Canada so enjoying a comfortable but not too hot place with lots of culture is ideal for me. I'm expecting to pick a place either this May or next if I don't like what I see...and I've been working with an agent in Spain from Dream Homes based in Fuengirola.

It will be my winter place and I'm prepared to spend between 100-125k Euros for a 2-bedroom a kilometre from the beach with a view and balcony. I've seen many.

One thing I can't seem to get a clear answer on the type of visa I require for only 5-7 months a year, and the conditions tied to it.

I'm not rich enough to purchase the "golden visa" requiring a home purchase of Euro 500,000,

Does anyone have information on the requirements for such a visa. I think I read that one must show an account that has at least Euro 25,000 annually. That would not be a problem.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi,if you can live with spending 6 months or less a year you can get by using a Schengen visa which allows you 90 days out of 180 in the Schengen bloc which includes Spain. If you want to spend more time the easiest is probably a non lucrative visa. You will need to show an income of 2130 euros a month plus 532 euros for a spouse and or each dependant. You will also need private medical coverage. The figures quoted may have been updated but you should really contact the nearest Spanish Embassy in your home country.Although it looks like you are on the verge of buying I would advise you to engage a lawyer not associated with the estate agencywho will be working solely in your interests and do not get involved in cutting any corners to save time or money. If anybody suggests this just walk away.Good luck.
