My husband and I are trying to find a country to expat to from USA that will allow us to live rather cheaply while I finish my schooling. We have some family friends that are Sri Lankan and they suggested Sri Lanka for a place to go. We would be living there with our 3 kids, age 14, 6, and 3. We plan to homeschool unless the local school system is stellar. 1. Would our budget of about $3000/month US be enough? 2. Will it be a safe environment for our 3 kids? 3. Would we have trouble staying for the full 3 years I need? We understand it is likely we would need to leave the country every 6 months. Mostly we are worried about the kids, safety, budget and visa requirements. Thanks for your help! Amber

Thanks for the response Carol. I think the fact that my kids are going makes me more hesitant. The idea of it is both wonderful and terrifying to me, so we'll see what happens.

If you ever need to place to live for your family, we have an apartment in Colombo 06 the centre of the city and many international schools.
We are expats as well moving to sl this year. My half family is sri Lankan though.
