With regards your query for living costs in Sri Lanka.
It is pretty much the same as any other place, depends on how you plan to live.
Colombo is more expensive than other areas of the country, as you would expect.
Rents for a decent place are anything from 40,000 SLR pcm upwards depending on what you are looking for.
A meal out in a restaurant with drinks in Colombo would be from 2000 SLR per person, although you can in eat shorts bar or similar for much less.
Food shopping as pretty much the same cost as in the UK, again dependant on what you buy. Some things much cheaper if not imported.
