" Dear all, I am currently working for Andersen consulting in London (2 years) though I would like to relocate to Stockholm in the spring for personal reasons. I would very much like to know how to go about finding employment and the difficulties that I may face. Many Thanks, AK "

" Hi AK Firstly welcome to the Sweden network. I hope that we can be of help to you. If I were you I would try to get a transfer with Andersen Consulting first. That way you would probably be able to continue working on similar projects for a company that you know whilst you settle in to Swedish life. The ease of getting another job in Stockholm......... hummm. I think that this is very dependent on your skills. Assuming that you are a computer consultant with Andersen then you should have it easier than most. One thing that I will point out, although it saddens me to do so, you have a very foreign sounding name. Which is something that I have heard causes some Americans and Brits problems when applying for jobs here. My tip would be to call your target companies and talk to the person that would handle your application, let them hear your English before seeing your name typed out on your CV. Do let us know how your job hunt goes and the big move over. Good luck Julie "

" Julie, First of all thank you for the response and information. I guess a transfer is not an option as I wish to start afresh in Sweden and have a less demanding job and focus more on the life, social scene etc. I will hopefully have a couple of months off in the new year and then come to Stockholm to search first hand as applying remotely is proving to be very difficult. Also do you know anything about tax? I hear that it is really high in Sweden (income tax)? Hopefully hear from you soon. Thanks again! AK "

" Hi AK I''m afraid that I have not had much luck in finding you any agencies names yet. None of my friends have ever used an agency to be able to recommend one. However I do have a suggestion for an IT company that you may want to check out, is http://www.ifsab.com/ . If you want more inside info I know a few people working there. This of course is not the only IT company, there are plenty. But I think that you have to get into the Swedish way of employing people. Personal contact with a company will get you alot further than a CV in the post. I seem to remember reading somewhere that only 50% of all jobs are actually advertised. So the answer seems to be get on the phone/get a meeting and sell your self. The tax, one of the biggest moans about this country. Of my pay packet a massive 35% disappears to the government, and I am in a low tax bracket. As much as most people complain that this is too high, I can imagine the noise they would make if they didn''t have a national health service and had to pay privet. Just one thought for you. There is more to Sweden than Stockholm! Good luck with the job hunt. Julie "
