" Hi! I am new to Switzerland and recently pregnant. I will have the baby here. Are there some big differences compared to the U.S. in medical practices, philosophies, or policies that I should know about (for good and bad)? I am English speaking only and live in the Zurich area. Any help or comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Maura "

" e dawson - 11:37pm Oct 13, 2000 Hi Maura, I''d suggest first getting in touch one of the English speaking women''s groups in Zurich - either ZIWA (ziwa.com) or the American Women''s Club (awczurich.org). You will find many women who will be happy to share their experiences. The American Women''s Club has a ''Living in Zurich'' course starting at the end of October that would be a great place to start. If memory serves me correctly the topic is thoroughly covered. Other resources: (taken from the ZIWA newsletter - I can''t give a personal recommendation as I haven''t see either newsletter, but they sound helpful.) Mothering Matters - an english newsletter offering information on child rearing in Switzerland. (email: mbs@swissonline.ch). The Stork Knows - a company offering courses and private sessions on childbirth prepartaion in English. (email: abr@goldnet.ch) Best of luck to you. "

" I just had baby number 4 about 5 weeks ago in Zurich (actually in Bulach). It was an absolutely wonderful experience. My dr. was great, the hospital stay was incredible (insurance covers 5-6 days after delivery, %100!!) A few things are different than when I delivered in the states, but nothing negative. If have any questions, you can email me. beaner@kovac.ch "

" Hello Maura You might wat to call Nicki at Le Concierge in Zug. I know several of her clients have been through this and she can probably tell you all about insurance, hospitals, groups etc. The website is www.leconcierge.ch and I think there is a hotline for non-members where you can ask any questiosn at all. good luck Louise Smith Zug "
