" Hi, I live in Germany and am going to Zurich for a conference in March and would like to go skiing for a few days. Can anyone tell me of the closest ski resorts to there that are not too expensive? thanks "

" Try Flumserberge. Its about 1 hours drive from the centre of Zürich (direction Chur). Its not really expensive, good facilities, covers all standards, and its where the Zürichites go for day trip skiing. Regards "

" Hi Jessica, A caveat - I am just now learning to ski, so I really don''t know what I am talking about (but when did that ever stop me?)...but here are some places within day-tripping distance from Zurich that I enjoy: Hoch Ybrig - in canton Schwyz, near Einsiedeln, about one hour from Zurich. Braunwald - good trains from Zurich - charming town. About a little over an hour away. www.braunwald.ch Flumserberg - a little under two hours from Zurich. Not too crowded during the week. www.flumserberg.com Check snow conditions for these resorts... they are all between 1500-2300 meters, I think. Arosa - about 3 hours away - another charming area. Take the train to Chur, then then on to Arosa - the views from the Chur-Arosa line are spectacular. www.arosa.ch Being a beginner, I can''t judge the quality of the runs...I''m just happy to end up at the bottom still alive and in one piece. There are some special deals offered by the SBB ""snow ''n'' rail"" covering train tickets and ski passes for many of the better known resorts...a very economical way to do it. See www.railaway.ch for more info. If you have a few days, why not go a little farther? Have fun, E Dawson "
