" My fiancé & I are looking into tax + s and - s. He''s not sure how exactly it will work. I''m a military member who will still live/work in Germany until Nov 03. We wonder if the CH gov''t will want to tax my income even though it will be earned outside of CH, will never be banked in CH & will be taxed by the US Gov''t. Will it have an adverse affect on his tax situation? We are trying to avoid double taxation. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, LH "

" LadiHawk, regardless of your citizenship (yours or of your fiance/husband) you will be liable for swiss income tax (reporting and paying it)ONLY if you establish OFFICIAL residence in Switzerland (by way of a permit B, C or acquired Swiss citizenhip). If you earn money outside of CH, you will therefore be liable as long as if you are a resident of CH. In any event US citizen, as you might be aware, living outside of the US still need to report to the IRS. To my knowledge Uncle Sam is the only guy who tax people based on citizenship, not residence. The US and Swiss Governments however have a tax treat to avoid double taxation. The IRS (www.irs.gov). web site has links to the treaty, as well as rules on US citizen abroad. Good Luck "

Thanks for your response. This answered my questions exactly. I had found the treaty on the Swiss Embassy site but article 19 was not there and that is the one (I think) that dealt with residency. LH
