" I got a job offer in Zurich Switzerland just recently. It is a job relating to Electronics Engineering. I have 7 years of experience in the field of Engineering. The company is now working on my work permit. They said that I have to wait at least 10 weeks to get a work permit. My question is what if after 10 weeks I''m informed by the Swiss government that I cannot get a work permit? Is it difficult to get a work permit approved by the Swiss authorities through a company that is going to hire me? Is there a quota system regarding B-work permits? And if ti does, what are my chances of getting one if I apply at May 2001? If your work permit is rejected, will you be informed much earlier than the 10 weeks or it will take as long as 10 weeks to know whether you are accepted or rejected? "

" Hello The info you''ve been given by your copany is accurate. Every kanton has its own allocation and you have a better chance if you have specialist skills such as electrical engineering! It is a good idea to use a specialist firm to check your application before sending it in - try MSP Consulting in Zug. They are very good. Call Bigitte Greif on 041 711 44 22. For help with moving, finding an apartment, schools etc try Le Concierge also in Zug. Their hotline number is 0901 555 056 and their website is www.leconcierge.ch. They speak English and German. They are very helpful and can give you all sorts of guidance and tips for moving here and getting the most out of Swiss life - especially if you don''t speak German. Hope this helps. Godd luck Nicola Auf der Maur "

I think it depends on your company. It took me less than one month to get things done. Easy and no hassle. I believe it is because mine is a BIG Swiss firm who has a good relation with the authority.
