" Hello, My husband and I have recently moved here from the United States. We are trying to start working on getting our Swiss driver''s licenses, but have heard conflicting information. Does anyone know what the procedure is for changing US licenses in for Swiss ones? Do we have to go through driving school and vision/hearing tests? Thanks! Kathleen "

" HI there, My husband and I are from Canada. We live near Zurich. All we had to do was go to the transportation office - i think it''s called the Strassenverkehrsamt des Kantons. They gave us a form that we filled out. We had to have an eye exam from one of their approved places(they gave us a list). We sent the form, a copy of our visa and our old licence back to them. Within a week they sent back both our Cdn licence and our new swiss licence. I think that the procedure should be the same for you. One thing to remember is that you have to do this within the first year of your arrival or you need to take the test. We got all our info from a book called ""living and working in Switzerland"" by David Hampshire. A really informative book that we''ve used lots. Hope this helps. Catherine "

" Hi, Same procedure as described stands for Lucerne. I am an American and we did basically the same thing. It is no trouble! Jan "
