" A question for all... I''m considering switching to internet via cable, and would like to hear from anyone who has already done so.... How is the service? How is the speed? Downtime? Any other problems? What about the total costs - were they as expected? Any comments on your experiences would be appreciated. Thanks, E Dawson "

" You mean with CableCom HiSpeed http://www.hispeed.ch I''ve been with them for 2 years and cannot imagine going back to slow old phone line access. You are connected as long as you want. There have been some teething problems - to do with securing the system from data leaks and keeping the TV signals clean. This meant the rollout was slower than expected. Cost? CHF 65 a month for the medium fast deal. I rent a cable modem at CHF 15 a month and have already been upgraded to a faster one which logs on quicker too. I''m averaging 800 kbps according to Net Medic and contrary to expectation the service has gotten faster over the two years, not slower as more folk use it. Extras? You need a networK card and a cable about CHF 100 on off charge. Downtime? About once a month on average they have an hour or so unavailable. In January 2001 they were out for three days and refunded the fee for those days. Otherwise fine. What are you waiting for?? "

" I have been using the Cablecom service since the start of the year. I have found it a lot faster than dialup, and as reliable. The server can still go down occaisional and they regularly have problems supplying a reliable newsgroup server (they use Swisscom) but generally it is a vast improvement "
