" I am an American relocating to Switzerland in a few months. I have a valid U.S. drivers license with a motorcycle endorsement (over 125cc). I know that Switzerland accepts the U.S. license without a retest for CARS, but for example Germany only transfers the car endorsement, not the motorcycle (you have to retake the driving test for the motorcycle). What is the Swiss policy? "

" Dear Gary The basic answer to your question is that if you have a US licence which enables you to drive a motorbike you will be allowed to drive a bike here without any problems. Depending on how long you are coming for you will need either an international driving licence or need to get a Swiss one. If you need to get a Swiss one you won''t loose your US one - you''ll get a Swiss one as well. You need to register at the Traffic Office, fill in a form, show them your US licence and then a Swiss one will be issued to the same standard as the US one. Where are you moving to? There is a very good company in Zug (near Zürich) called Le Concierge and they have a hotline for answerng just this kind of question. The number is 0901 555 056 and they are there weekdays 9am - 5pm. Good luck Nicola "
