Looking for advice on moving to Switzerland...

Hi...I have been thinking of moving to Switzerland, preferably Zurich, for some time. I've been checking recruitment sites etc but I'm at a disadvantage as I don't speak Swiss German and have very little high German. Neither do I have a permit and am aware of the restrictions. I am an advertising manager in Ireland but have a fairly broad educational background. So if anyone has any suggestions or help I would really appreciate it. Thanks....

Hi

Moving to Zurich may not be as difficult for you as you think, although economically things are difficult here right now. For a start you no longer need to worry about a work permit. Since the start of the year an agreement has existed between the EU and Switzerland to allow each group of nationals to seek work in the others ecconomic zone without the level of formalities previuosly needed. You can come and live here as long as you have a job or can support yourself financially. Your embassy here should be able to advise on the technicalities.
Next Language it is possible to get by quite comfortably with very little High German as English is an increasingly widely spoken language. Even the suoermarkets have someone to help in English. Swiss German is made up of many dialects and can be difficult to learn in congunction with High German, even for the Swisss with many of them prefering to speak Engli.sh to hock Deutsch.
Work in English is possible try the web-sites of companies which trade with English speaking countries.
Lastly, Switzerland is on average 40% more expenseive than the UK, where I come from so you need to consider that before accepting a job.
