" Could somebody provide a little more information on the accomodation types and costs and the best areas for expats to stay. We''d be looking for a fairly large place, becuase we have 4 children doing home-schooling. In addition ideas on the availability, and whereabouts of western foodstuff. Oh, before I foget, what is the Visa rules like, can I come in with a Business visa and apply for a work permit, or should the work Permit be obtained beforehand. What documentation are required such a workpermit. "

" Tienmu is the main expat area in Taipei. All the major international schools are there. If you have a US passport, you can get a 60-day multiple entry visa from the Taiwan consulate. It is good for 5 years and you can your 60-day entry twice before you have to leave the country. Taiwan may have similar visa agreements with other countries. I do not know about applying for a work permit. For answers to this an other questions, contact the Community Center, email address: csc@community.com.tw and check out their website at: http://www.community.com.tw. They also have a very useful publication called Taipei Living. Alan "

" Hello! I''ve lived in Tien Mu for the past 4 years on and off, and can definitely tell you where to get western foodstuffs if you''re living in Tien Mu. There''s a little store on Chung Shan N. Rd. called ""Wellman''s"" which sells all the imported Western foods you can never find anywhere else (especially CEREAL!!!). It''s near the American School. Hope that helps! Marion "
