" Hello, I am living in Taipei at the moment and will possibly be moving to Taichung. I have lots of information on living in Taipei but would love to hear more about Taichung. Simple things like what is the public transport like there, and do people speak english there as much as they do in Taipei. I have heard that it is nicer in Taichung because it is smaller than Taipei. Is there still plenty to do and see in Taichung? I would love to hear anything anyone has to say. Thanks heaps! Carolyn "

" In my opinion, Taichung is a much better place to live, and possibly the best place to live in Taiwan. Surrounded by a ring of mountains, the weather is sunny and stable. There are not so many English speakers in Taichung, which I found to be a plus as I moved to Taiwan expressly to study Chinese. The air is much cleaner down there than in Taibei. The times that I have ventured up to visit, in the evening when I return home I always found the inside of my nostrils to be black!! The buses are just as nuts down there as they would be in Taibei! It''s closer to Hualien, Tairogo Gorge, Tainan, and Taidong than Taibei, so it makes a better central base for forays into the surrounding areas, etc... the traffic is better in Taichung... Yes,Taichung is smaller than Taipie,but so much more people here. Driving is a real""obtsical cour-se""HA. Yes, I do drive and I get out early to avoid the""crowd"". It is somewhat dirtier than Taipie. More pollution here because Taichung is industrial town. Close to ocean. Taichung has a fabulous fish market outside of Sha-Lu,well worth the trip there!
