" Hello all, I am going to be attending the Mandarin Training Center this fall, but I have quite a few questions that so far my college here in the states can''t answer for me. What kind of child care is available in Taiwan, and how much does it cost? The MTC told me that everyone uses nannies, then I heard that yes there are daycare centers, but I have no idea what it costs. Also, what can I expect to pay for a two- or three- bedroom apartment? Thanks so much! "

" Most people use nannies, but it is difficult to qualify. They are usually migrant workers, and cost a little under US$700 / month. My DH''s grandparent''s domestic helper (same thing) took 2 months of processing before she made it here. There are daycare centers, but with much lower standards (IMHO) than what you might be used to in the US. They can cost anywhere from $450 to $800 from what I''ve looked at for my son. We currently have a 4 bedroom apartment that rents for about US$1300. That is pricey for us; my husband is a lowly English teacher :-) but with 2 little ones, a decent apartment was important to us. We''ll be moving to a less expensive one soon. A 2 or 3 bedroom apartment in the city will probably cost you about NT$25,000 or about US$800. When do you think you will be arriving? How many in your family? There are a few websites you might want to visit if you don''t already know about them.... http://www.community.com/tw http://www.now.at/connections http://www.now.at/taipeibabies http://www.oriented.org http://www.heychristine.com (this last one is more for fun, but will give you a feel for living in Taiwan) Jennifer "
