My family may be moving to Taiwan in the late fall and I would like to know what type of social groups and activities exist for expats. We would like to find ways to make friends and have a social network.
Thanks for any advice.

The American Club in China is a nice place to meet other expats. It's located at #47, Pei An Rd., and the contact number is 886-2-28858260. It's a membership club.

We are also a family in Kobe, moving to Taipei in 3-4 months. We were curious how to ship a car there, and if it is worth shipping a used CRV Honda or if import tax, duties are so expensive....curoius if you hear anything on this..

I would not try importing any car, new or otherwise.
The duty is close to 100%; see this link:

Hi, not sure if you've already moved to Taipei, but I wanted to tell you that there are a couple of online forums you might find very helpful.
http://www.forumosa.com is a very active forum where you're likely to find the answer to just about any Taiwan-related question.
http://www.parentpages.net has a forum specifically for English-speaking families in Taiwan, local or expat, and tends to be more for families with very young children.
Good luck on your move to Taiwan.

For anyone moving to Taiwan and looking to meet some other expats, I recommend getting in touch with this group:
www.taiwancelts.com
As a member I can tell you it is a great group of guys and girls from many different countries, all of whom have been living and working in Taiwan for many years. If you play a bit of sport, all the better ;)
