" Hi. I''m a 26-year-old American female who''s relocating to Bangkok at the end of December, 1999. I''m looking for information on finding a roommate. I''m also looking for a job as a copy editor (sub-editor). Any helpful links or advice would be greatly appreciated. If anyone needs any help relevant to the NYC area before I move, I''d be happy to help. Cheers, Lucy phoenixx17@hotmail.com "

" Hi,I am re-locating to Bangkok shortly and I hope to bring 3 cats and 1 small dog-help!The company is small with no re-location experience, office is in ""central"" Bangkok. Is there any chance of finding a house with a garden within 45 min commute?Any idea of cost? What is Thai view of pet cats and dogs?I have been on holiday and I love the place but it is very different to living there. As a single female-where do I go to meet other expats?Any help will be very gratefully received! Thanks Sarah "

" Hi Sarah: Would love to give you tips, pointers, etc. Drop me a line at jmdonahoe@yahoo.com so I can correspond directly. But briefly, it may very well be possible to find a house that meets your criteria. I know lots of people with pets. You might find the info re: vets, quarantine etc at www.ethailand.com in their express section. Jamie "

" Hi Sarah! Sorry for the delay but I wanted to check out a few things before replying to your questions from another board. Firstly, in terms of humidity and temperature, January is the best time of the year in Thailand. Good planning on your part to move at that time! On balance, I enjoyed my time in Thailand from 1990 to 1992 (Last year, I returned to the US after living in several other countries). The people are friendly, the culture is unique, the job was good and the food was great. However, the traffic is horrendous, rules and regulations are not always transparent and keep in mind that Thailand is still a lesser developed country. Patience is a virtue and an even demeanor is a good trait to have if planning to live in Tahiland. Regarding your pets, I would also check out the Thai import regulations. Your moving company should be able to tell you more. If not, try questioning via email, Transpo International Limited (www.transpologistics.com) which is a reputable Thai moving company which I have used. Regarding taxes, check out www.doingbusinessin.com which belongs to Ernst & Young, a mojor international accounting firm. Under ""Choose a Country"" from the left side, select Thailand. Click ""Executive Tax"" on the right side. Click ""Income Tax - Employment"" and under ""Who is Liable"", you will see that ""ALL resident and nonresident individuals earning income from sources in Thailand are subject to personal income tax"". Before leaving home, I would also doublecheck to see at what point are you not liable for UK taxes (Unfortunately, Americans are subject to US taxes no matter where and for how long we live and work abroad). Look at this trip as being an adventure but at the same time, it''s good to be prepared! Also, many thanks for your kind words about us and keep us in mind when speaking with any of your friends who have the urge to explore the world! Have a good trip, Douglas douglas@expatexchange.com "
