" Hi Sarah! Sorry for the delay but I wanted to check out a few things before replying to your questions from another board. Firstly, in terms of humidity and temperature, January is the best time of the year in Thailand. Good planning on your part to move at that time! On balance, I enjoyed my time in Thailand from 1990 to 1992 (Last year, I returned to the US after living in several other countries). The people are friendly, the culture is unique, the job was good and the food was great. However, the traffic is horrendous, rules and regulations are not always transparent and keep in mind that Thailand is still a lesser developed country. Patience is a virtue and an even demeanor is a good trait to have if planning to live in Tahiland. Regarding your pets, I would also check out the Thai import regulations. Your moving company should be able to tell you more. If not, try questioning via email, Transpo International Limited (www.transpologistics.com) which is a reputable Thai moving company which I have used. Regarding taxes, check out www.doingbusinessin.com which belongs to Ernst & Young, a mojor international accounting firm. Under ""Choose a Country"" from the left side, select Thailand. Click ""Executive Tax"" on the right side. Click ""Income Tax - Employment"" and under ""Who is Liable"", you will see that ""ALL resident and nonresident individuals earning income from sources in Thailand are subject to personal income tax"". Before leaving home, I would also doublecheck to see at what point are you not liable for UK taxes (Unfortunately, Americans are subject to US taxes no matter where and for how long we live and work abroad). Look at this trip as being an adventure but at the same time, it''s good to be prepared! Also, many thanks for your kind words about us and keep us in mind when speaking with any of your friends who have the urge to explore the world! Have a good trip, Douglas douglas@expatexchange.com "
