" Hello all. I am short listed for employment on a project in Northern Thailand. Being an expatriate, my concerns are towards understanding the Thai behavioural sensitivities, so as not to offend potentially, my new employees. As an expat, I understand that our Western behavioural / temprement displays can seriously offend Thais. I am not seeking this in relation to visiting the respective night spots and such activity areas. What are the no-nos, in greetings, body movements, worker disciplinary requirements and responses etc., that are likely to cause problems? Any response appreciated "

" Brian: Two things to watch out for: heads and feet. The head is the highest part of the body, the feet the lowest and lowliest. Don''t point your feet at any one or touch them on the head. Best source of info on this is Culture Shock! Thailand. It explains quite a bit and will help you avoid the worst of the gaffes. Jamie "

cult. shock thailand is sure the best book about that matter.. some more tips of someone who has a fiancee there .... so here they are.. Never ever blame someone guidance is important to thais they dont touch in public same westerners for case of going out ... let the one pay who feel most involved in business ... Thais dont like to be misunderstood ... ...especially not in terms of culture ...Thais like to show that they care about so. ...but once you understood their cultural rules its convenient over there... and Thais are very decent...so much for now .... Greetings Marty ...
