Has anyone shipped a dog to Thailand? I am moving to CHiang Mai in January and I would like to go and get settled in and then have my dog shipped over, He is 40 lbs. and would have to ride in the cargo hold. I am concerned for safety mentally and physically.

In May 2011 we shipped our dog from Australia to Bangkok having paid more for the dog to fly then it cost one of us. This was to have included all taxes and what not at the airport in Bangkok. However, when the dog arrived around 4pm and it was time to collect it from the cargo area (free zone I beleive they called it) we were met by two very helpful people whom we were told worked for the cargo authority.
They were very accomodating offering to go and get our dog initially for a cost of 20 Thousand baht for extra fees which they did not stipulate or feel that they needed too. We finally got the dog some six hours later that night after agreeing to pay 8 thousand baht and a few tears shed by the wife - who by the way is a local and whom neither of these two lovely gentlemen took any notice of or cared about. These so called cargo employees brought our dog with no paperwork which should have indicated we paid them this fee or that the dog had even been collected from customs. These two gents walked away smiling all the way to the bank and I am guessing we were not the first to be caught out.
So word of warning, be prepared to pay more when you go to get your dog or better still have the dog arrive on an early flight (not over the weekend) and head straight over to customs (free zone) and attend the actual office and speak to someone who actually works there, or at least has some ID. You have been warned.....

I would assume that the heat the dog must endure in the bottom of the plane, would be tremendous ???

Actually, it gets quite cold in a cargo bin at that altitude... it does not sound like a pleasant trip for a dog, but people do ship them...
