I'm an English teacher traveling for the Chinese New Year. Gonna be in Thauland for 10 days. Anyone have some good recommendations for places to go in Bangkok and the Phuket area? Would like to stay away from the touristy places. Any help would greatly be appreciated

Without knowing your interests, it is kind of hard to respond. You can try a search for bangkok things to see and do and phuket things to see and do and you will get some ideas of what is available, then if you have questions about specific things to do or see you can post them here.

There is one little known show on the upper northwest coast of Phuket. I forget the name, but it has shows similar to Cirque du Soleil and is quite entertaining.

As someone else replied, without knowing your other interests, it's impossible to make recommendations. Are you looking for family-friendly or adult entertainment? Avoid the elephant rides, they mistreat the poor animals. Do NOT do the zip-line rides or bungee jumping. Thailand's safety record is appalling and you have a good chance of never making it back.

Haha yeah probably should've mentioned that. I will be traveling alone for about 10 days. Really want to go hiking and swimming/diving in the Phuket area. I'll be Krabi and Ko Lanta as well. And in Bangkok I would like to do some shopping and sight seeing. Would be nice to some locations that locks go to for food/drinks/entertainment/ and outdoorsy stuff.

Haha yes forgot to add the specifics. I wa t to do some diving, hiking, and climbing. I know some places but they seem to be popular tourist sights. Would like a more secluded experience. I know not to do the elephant rides and now I know not to do bungee jumping. Haha. Also I'm interested in all types of fun family friendly and adult. Would like to find some nice bars and great restaurants.

The day diving all over Thailand is not good if you are an experienced diver. The live-aboards have GREAT diving but that's a minimum dedication of four days. I've found the adult entertainment is boring in Phuket. Pattaya's Walking Street is a must see if you can swing the time. Again, ThaiVisa.com is the best site for information.
