For a novice, never been in Chiang mai, where would you recommend looking to find a condo to rent initially .... to get settled in to decide on staying permanently

Thanks in advance ...

San Sai is very big with expats...about 20 mins from city center but everything you need store wise is very close and prices are a lot cheaper.....rents in the 3000/4000 range for condos and sale prices pretty reasonable...300,000/500.000 range

It's nice out there for sure, but you'll most likely need a car or motorbike, which causes your expenses to go back up. You can get nice enough condo/apartments near the Old City for 8-12,000 baht (roughly 35 baht to one USD currently).

I know I might be in the minority about this issue, but no way I want to be driving a vehicle around Chiang Mai. However, I'm retired. Don't need to.

Yea, driving a motorbike doesn't really interest me either, I can walk to a few expat bars, and markets, and the bus is like 10 baht to go to Central Festival mall and even city center for 15 baht, but I do own a car as I often need to pickup friends at the airport or fly out somewhere or just do roadtrips to see other places around Thailand. I'm also retired and don't need to see around Thailand but that's some of the intrigue of being here.
