has anyone set up a bank account for social security deposits in Thailand

I haven't done it myself, but you should be able to do it by coordinating with Social Security in the USA and Bangkok Bank. (BBL) This link will give you some information on the procedures http://chiangmai.usconsulate.gov/root/pdfs/direct-deposit.pdf and if SSA wants a routing number, you use the SWIFT Code from BBL

I also recommend that you go to www.thaivisa.com and in the forums you will probably find people who have done this successfully
