Ok so I'm almost 21 and wanting to live in thailand for a year, I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to stay legal that long? I have seen thus question before but it was always asked by Pete who could get a retirement visa and I know I don't qualify. Thanks in advance

Your options are probably limited to finding a job or looking into the possibilities for studying at a Thai university and getting an education visa. See http://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/thailand-visa-types.php and http://www.thaiembassy.ca/en/visiting-thailand/visas/types-visas-periods-stay-fees/non-immigrant-visa for other possible options

The only way to stay for a year is to get a job. The easiest job is to teach English or other similar subjects. Unfortunately, school just started so you will have to wait until the next feeding frenzy starts, though a few openings appear around September/October from teachers leaving mid school year.

I forgot about the Educational visa until I read the post replying to your question. The problem with this type of visa is the government is really cracking down on these visas. You have to be able to prove you are REALLY going to class, and I have heard in some instances immigration officers denying re-entry into Thailand at the airport even if the person is truly going to school because they couldn't answer the officer's questions (asked in Thai) sufficiently enough to convince them they WERE attending classes. I would be cautious about the ED Visa. No, scratch that, I just plain wouldn't do it.
