Question about Visas

Hi all,
I am new to the group and am hoping to benefit from you all’s real world experience. I am VERY confused by the different visas that are out there and which would be the best for me to apply for. First a little about me. Im a 41 years old U.S. citizen, with no criminal history. I receive a monthly military pension, which would sustain me nicely in Thailand. I recently visited Bangkok for the first time, I spent a month there and ABSOLUTLEY loved it. I would LOVE to live in Bangkok permanently, in fact its all I think about now that I’m back in the U.S. But alas, I do not meet the 50 year old age requirement to get a retirement visa. I had one local advise me to try the “study Thai language visa route”, which I’m happy to do, if that turns out to be the best option (I did notice there seems to be online services “language schools” that specializes in that). I’ve also heard (I don’t know if this is correct) but I’ve heard that, if you do the constant visa run route, after about 5 times they might deny you entry? Also, I’ve heard the opposite, that they don’t care how many times you come, it’s all very confusing. Oh and for land border crossings Ive been told two things. One that you receive an extra 15 days and another person told me its 30? If you can help with some accurate advice about which visa route is best for somebody trying to stay 9 years, until he turns 50 and can get the coveted retirement visa, Id really appreciate it. Thanks all!

Really curious as someone making his 7th trip to TH ( i use single entry visa good for 90 days )
as travel to vietnam within the first 60 days and never stay more than 30 days when i return to TH) what it is about bangkok you loved i find the city hot, crowded, dirty and uninteresting but clearly a lot of people love it. What am i missing. I love ko samui and the islands and chiang mai and the north but aboid bangkok. And my gf lives in gangkok so wish i liked it more. Thx.

A city is far more than the weather, number of people, or some other superficiality. Rather than my reinventing the wheel, why don't you do a web search for why I love Bangkok to see what people say, and that often includes (just to name a few aspects) the culture, mores, traditions, customs, food, opportunities, ease of getting around, and learning about the people, the language and the differences in behavior compared to those in one's home country and other places where one has traveled.

Have you considered getting some training in your home country as a teacher of English as a second language or English as a Foreign Language? There are more details on the requirements for teaching here at www.ajarn.com
Once you are qualified, you can find a teaching job, and might even consider
using your G.I. Bill for additional education here in Thailand. Going he later route means you will have Thai classmates, which can open doors o other opportunities.
