" Dear Melanie, (and others interested in increasing your circle of friends in Holland) Hello! I started organizing the International Mixer Utrecht because I feel it is ridiculous to have to travel into Amsterdam to enjoy meeting new people who are also English speaking. There are SOOOOO many expats, immigrants etc. in the middle of the country (well spread all over the place for that matter) that we can develop groups and opportunties outside of Amsterdam. So...the mixer is the 3rd Saturday of the month, every month, at the Holiday Inn Railroad Bar in Utrecht. I wanted something to be regular and consistent so people had something to look forward to and attend when they could. I chose this location because it is central and easily accessible from public transport or parking (unless a huge event is taking place at the jaarbeurs convention center but mostly we are pretty lucky). Small groups of friends have developed that meet in addition to the main mixer which varies in attendance month to month. People travel from Den Haag, Rotterdam, Doordrecht, Amsterdam, Enschede, Leerbroek, Haarlem....etc to attend. I often get responses from people who say they don''t want to come if they don''t live in Utrecht..but the reality is...many expats make their friends outside of their neighborhood because we are all so spread out. In addition, we don''t always connect with everyone so this is a good opportunity to meet people in a casual atmosphere. All nationalities attend. I myself married a Dutch man and I also organize a Dutch/other couple dinner group that rotates throughout the Ranstad area as well. If anyone on the list has a Dutch partner and wants to join that group please contact me personally... jferguson@limit.nl to find more about the group. I look forward to meeting you - hopefully on January 20th. Kindly, Julia "
