" Hello, My name is Gary and I am interested in any information about securing private health insurance in the Netherlands. I am planning to immigrate and am seeking any information. I have found some information, but in general it is very incomplete. Has anyone had any experience that you can share? I am to be self-empolyed in the Netherlands, so relying on my employer for guidance is not an option. "

" Hi Gary I assume you will be clearing more than Dfl. 60 k (if not you will be entitled to Ziekenfonds and have to pay more tax at source). Otherwise get a load of quotes from expat health care people (I only know the UK ones, PPP or BUPA) and come over on short-term holiday insurance. I got insured here. My family (4) costs about Dfl 500 per month. I think it''s cheaper here and this is probably exaccerbated by the weak euro. I am insured through Nationale Nederlanden (Sp?) and they seem okay. Sam "

I''d recommend a co. called Lobbes Insc. in Amsterdam that''s specialised in helping foreigners. I went thru them and relocators use them.

" We are an international financial consultancy and use a couple of different Dutch brokers for our client''s insurance needs. There is a particular policy in English which many people like as you can also bundle house, contents and the obligatory personal liability cover (persoonelijk aansprakelijkheids) with it if you wish. Alternatively, let me know what sort of cover you need and I can obtain a quote for you. Being self-employed here means that, depending on your TAXABLE INCOME (after lots of allowable deductions), you may be eligible for the state insurance system (ziekenfonds) but you will need an accountant or tax adviser to help you with that issue.
