" Hi, I strongly recommend that you don''t just come over here... there is something called a 30% ruling that means you don''t have to pay taxes on the first 30% of what you earn. This makes a BIG difference in your take home pay. This 30% ruling applies only to foreigners who are recruited from abroad. If you come here on your own, you will not get this benefit. In addition, this ruling provides some other benefits, such as being able to exchange your American license for a Dutch one automatically. If you are not here under the 30% ruling, you are forced to take expensive driving lessons and take what I''ve heard is a horrifically difficult Dutch driving test (practical and written). Etc., etc. I heard that recently the Dutch gov''t has really tightened up on work permits, and now jobs must be advertised for 2-4 months (can''t remember the exact time period) in order to prove that no Dutch citizen is qualified before a work permit can be issued. This rule was not really enforced in recent years, which made it easier for companies to bring people over. So don''t expect a speedy opportunity, but to me, I''d try this route. It has some long term advantages you''ll be sorry to miss out on for years to come if you just come over. "
