Has anyone transported their dog to Amsterdam from the US?

Were moving to the Netherlands in August. We want to take our dog with us but have her come over in late Oct or early Nov due to the weather. Can anyone recommend an airline or pet transportation company? She has never travelled in an airplane and is too big to sit in the cabin so she must go in cargo.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much.

I brought my Doberman with me (Holland is super dog friendly!) and did research on several airlines. I ended up choosing a KLM direct flight from Washington. They were super friendly and my dog didn't seem to show any stress or anxiety issues when she arrived. It was also pretty cheap, $200, and I also asked before boarding if she was on board and they were happy to confirm. The most important issue would be to get a direct flight, I drove several hours to Washington just to make the 11 hour flight as quick as possible for her. Hope this helps!

Hi Natlee,
thanks so much for replying. I am actually doing something similar I am driving to LAX from PHX just to avoid the connections so she could fly direct also thru KLM. I have read great reviews about KLM and your message confirms it. This makes me feel a lot better. I will be flying back in 2 weeks to bring her to NL. Thanks again.

I have always traveled with USAIR/AMERICAN but have a service dog, not one for cargo. Have had bad reports about Delta. My ex-husband brought our 120 lb dog over via a pet transport company. He had to pay to have a custom larger crate built. Suggest you look into a pet transport company. It will me your life easier. You will need special paperwork for airlines etc. Contact me if you need more help. Once u get there they are very dog friendly in NL.

We are moving back to Holland in June and are bringing our toy poodle with us, which we hope will fit in the cabin. We have had to put a prior dog on the cargo, and yes there are weather restrictions. Think the cut off point for us is mid May. I searched Delta and h
They do have service to transport year round but not guaranteed to travel the same time you do. Start there.

Do not use Delta. Too many bad reports. I use American to travel with my service animal in the cabin but they have a better reputation than most for transporting animals. Schipol has a really good animal reception center. Go online to find out if you need to have a 3rd country certificate to bring your dog in. You will Ned to have your dog microchipped and get rabies prior to dearture. Must be done in that order. Even if your dog has current rabies Vac but no microchip it will need to be done again. Get Eu pet passport as soon as you get there. You will need papers for this. Go to Schipol airport and read about bringing animals in. Alternatively you coukd use a pet transport company if u r not travelling with you dog. Might be easier and safer. However u still need to get shots. Most pet transport companies gave links you can download to find requirements for dif countries, as well as p.aperwork
