How to move to Amsterdam?

I've been reading around the internet and am not finding a clear answer. I'm hoping someone here can help. I'm an American who would like to move to Amsterdam. I do not have a job lined up and would need one. I'm an IT professional and believe I have valuable skills. My question is in what order should I be lining things up? Should I try lining up a job before I come? If I can't, can I just come over and try to find a job then? I still wouldn't have a green card or work visa at that point so would that hurt my job search? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Next to impossible. You will not get a job without a resident visa to stay. Schengen rules allow you to stay for 90 days on a visitors visa. That' it. You will also have a problem renting without a residency visa. You don't get one just by asking. Dutch are very strict about this. Unless you are already an EU national (citizen) i it is almost impossible. I speak from experience. Sorry.

There are lots of tips here and on many other
websites. Don't be discouraged.
People told me I couldn't just up and retire in France now in my 60's with very limited
retirement funds, alone and without a job.
I hired a company to help me, and
voila! my one year visa has been granted and
I'm getting on a plane in less than 60 days.
You can do whatever you decide to do.
