Hi, I was considering an oppurtunity to relocate to Trinidad with my wife. I was searching the real estate web sites for affordable apartmnents USD 300 to 550 pm. But could not get any in that range especially in the west area (in port of spain). Is it that I need to increase my budget or am i not doing the right search. Can someone suggest a good website.

Hi,
Would you consider buying a small boat to live on?
There are several in the west from USD $ 6,500 to the sky.
I may look in the paper for if you are still looking.
Best,
plyco

You will not find properties at this rate on the web. Most TT websites deal with the luxury end of the expat market. Best suggestion is to use the telphone and contact some Real Estate agents that do not have websites. Google "AREA Trinidad" for list of Realtors or subscribe to the online edition of the Trinidad Express. Target properties in Diego Martin & Maraval,. Westmoorings is expensive and exclusive. Moka is very expensive and exclusive, Federation park is incredibly expensive and exclusive. Most professional people in T&T commute from Diego Martin and Petite Valley. Avoid Lavantile & Belmont in POS.
Good luck.

Hi there yes you need to increase your budget and you will not find a DECENT apartment ANYWHERE in the west for that amount. apartments/houses in the west and even the st. james area start at around TT$5000. i'm not a real estate agent; just someone who has moved around a lot so i know what you get for the money! Let me know if you need help with anything else. My business provides virtual support to foreigners and companies coming into trinidad. regards

Hi Pretty12 Apartment rental prices vary GREATLY. It would help to know where (general area) you would be employed and what your budget is. For instance, i live in a really neat 2br apartment in central trinidad that costs TT$1600/month. The same apartment in west trinidad would cost about TT$5000. If you're looking at a gated community in an area like westmoorings or other pricey areas like maraval, goodwood park etc., then you must be prepared to pay as much as US$3000-5000 per month. That wasnt a typo..yes US dollars. I recently found an apartment for a client for US$4000/month in Bayside Towers, Cocorite. Upscale condos in the west go for that price. Security is certainly a top-of-the-list issue for all expats but you may find single houses that may not be as pricey that will have automatic gates and alarm systems. So really, it depends on what you're looking for or willing to settle for and what your budget is. Let me know if i can be of further assistance. ylivingstone@hotmail.com Kind regards

Hey Evie- It seems like you know something or two about this topic so I was wondering if you knew about how to find info on shared housing opportunities in Trinidad. I will be there on a writing assignment for 2 or 3 months and would love to find a place to hang my hat and possibly be part of a community. Cheers, Ellee

Hi Ellee well i guess you could say what i know, i know from experiencing it first hand! If you go through the classified section of an Express or Guardian newspaper here, under apartment rentals you would find numbers to call for "visitor accommodation" That's the closest you would get to shared housing. It's probably the equivalent of a bed and breakfast. It's usually part of someone's house, like an annex or something and there are usually other people in closer proximity to you than in hotels. Very homey and personal. The Woodbrook/Ariapita Avenue, Port of Spain area has quite a few as its so close to everything - eating places especially and lots of "liming" spots for expats. I'm sure you'll feel right at home. Don't hesitate to call me if you need any help settling in! 721.1336

Hi Evie,
I'd be based in Port of Spain and my prospective office will be at St Claire area. I'm hoping you might have any idea for a place to stay. I'd be with a group too, around 5 - 10. We may settle for 5 people for each apartment also. You have mentioned that you pay for your apartment @ TT1600. Is it for a single occupancy?
Thanks!

Did you manage to find an apartment under $500 u.s. dollars per month in Port of Spain? I'm planning to go for 12 months in Nov 2009 to POS.
If you have any contacts that would be great. Thank you.
