Hi guys

I've posted before ,but now have a little more clarity.

I have been offered 30k ttd per month before taxes plus 1-4000 in grats per month, with a company car also.

We are a family of three, will this salary support my family ?

My wife is Trinidadian so it seems the schools offer discount for residents,

Any advice on this greatly welcome,we are currently in the uk(London so life very expensive )

Thanks in advance

Steve

Hey,

To put it into perspective a pack of bread, cost 12$ TT and gas costs 2.70$ TT for 1 liter or 4$ TT for premium gas. Internet cost $300 TT a month and cable would be $200 a month. Most places rent for about $5000 TT. So i think you would do very well with that kind of salary. Most people earn about $5000 TT a month. So you will be able to live very comfortably in Trinidad.

Hi thanks for the reply,

That is a pre tax figure, after tax around
24000ttd

I will be sending about $5000ttd home each month ,housing that leaves me

$19,000
House$ 8-10000
So around $10,000 to live with,

This must include
Electric
Gas
Tv
Food
Education for my son(my wife is Trinidadian so he can take discount)

Hope all this makes sense

I also get company car paid for

Hi Steven,

Think you will get 25% taxes first year (foreigners) plus extras you will end up paying 27%~. So if you earn 30000 you will have 21000-22000 a month in your bank account. Don't know how your grats work, but if that means you get an extra 1 - 4 thousand great (those will be taxed too though!!!) so you will get 2900 out of 4000 grats after tax
You will probably want private health ins (6000 for three/year local company), depending where you live you will spend 5000 to 10000 month for house rental
If you want a good highschool for your son it may get quite steep but depends on the discounts you get!!! You have to work it out to make final numbers!
You may spend up to 3000 month in food ( without luxuries) 4000 being three of you, you can make it cheaper though, but when you get to know how to prepare nice things with local goods.
400 to 800 electricity (if you use air conditioning) if not much less, and if work is close 400 to 600 month in gas ( short distance but long hours sitting in your car to get anywhere) if you have to use premium instead of super is a lot more though (including weekend travel)
Tv plus Internet around 500 month
Cell phone depends on usage, I spend 150 and don't use it much, if you want data plan think about another 200 at least.

Great you have a car, that makes things easier!!! A lot!!!

If you rent for 5000 then you will have some savings, if you rent for 10000 don't think so.

Extras, going out for dinner, buying staff for the house, etc will depend on what you have left.

It is true many people here live with much less, but they are living in their country and you may want to visit uk every year, if its 3 of you that is a lot of money, you need to save!!!

Make your numbers again!

Cheers

Hi

Many thanks for your reply.

That great and gives me a good idea,

My car will be a diesel so I believe this is cheaper than gas(the opposite than here in uk we pay £1.39 per litre)

I will do my sums again with your quotes in mind

We won't be having staff in the house at all we are a normal working class family ,my wife being Trinidadian knows the local produce and we live a humble life,to us KFC is a treat!!

I plan to live close as poss to port of Spain as I will be working 60-70 hours per week

Cheers

Steve

I work for the international school POS and schools can be very expensive if they are not in public. The exams for public are very rigorous also (at least if you want your kids in a good one). ISPS is around $15OOO US/student. Since education for my daughter weighs in a lot for our decisions to move, I wanted to mention that to you also.
