Hi there
I'm planning to relocate to Trinidad with my wife and 3 year old this year, and we are keen to meet like-minded expats. Where do the expats hang out? and are there any expat groups or regular meet ups for expats?
Thanks

Hi You have a lot of questions! I am here on my husbands visa. He is employed by a UK company so can't advise on employment agencies here. I don't know what sort of employment you would be looking for here? Any company will need to evidence that there isn't a local person who can fill the position before they can employ you. It will take time to get a visa to work here. Cost of living can be quite high dependant on the standard of living you expect. For example we pay $5000 us per month rental not including utilities, gardener, security etc. We don't have children here so can't advise about schools but there is a UK Women's group who can. Crime rate is pretty scary here. Happy to answer any more questions if you want to pm me.

Seriously? $5,000 USD per month rent? You pay $60,000 per year rent?" Could you possibly mean $5,000 TT per month? That would be $850 USD per month. That is how much I pay for my house. I am a doctor so I assure that I am not living in a hovel. Perhaps you have a truly remarkable home that really does warrant $5,000 per month. If so, I congratulate you!

I have found a group on a website that arranges local social meetings. For example www.internations.org is trying to arrange monthly barbecues and other informal expat get-togethets. Their membership is about $5-7 USD per month.

Hi I just double checked and it was $5,000 US but we negotiated down to $4500. It is fully furnished but we had to supply the TV's. Our villa is not remarkable but it does have a great view of POS and a large pool. I congratulate you on finding somewhere for such a reasonable price. Rental prices in Westmoorings and Glencoe are high, I know flats in Bayside Towers start around $4000 US per month.

FlyboyWV. Yes, they mean $US. Some people, maybe the developers, build North American style homes and just rip the foreign company's off. It is just not fair but if you choose to live in an expat community, you pay a price. You could live in one of the nicer areas in Trinidad and pay $5,000 to $6,000 TT for a nice home. Unfortunately the T&T government allows this go to on.
