Hello All,

New to the forum, and planning my escape from the freezing north ! I was wondering if there are any NACE inspectors on the board whose brain I could pick regarding work in the Caribbean. I have been looking at the TT gov sites but was wondering if I have work and residency permits in Granada can I work in TT ? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am from Canada, Have lived and worked in Danmark nd spent quite a lot of time in the southern US.

Thanks

Carl

Not a NACE inspector, but used to work in Trinidad.

A visa and a work permit is a long painful process. The government is very slow and inefficient.
You will not get either on your own, once you have a job offer from a Trinidad company they will have to do all the paperwork. They company will have to show to the Trinidad government a reason as to why they are hiring you versus a Trini.

It's not worth it, not that nice of place. Glad I'm finally gone from there.

Thanks Techrep
I wonder if I get a residence and work permit in Grenada if that would allow me to work in Trinidad under some Caribbean work scheme? I would rather have a residence in Granada and work 2 or 3 weeks at a time in Trinidad , the work I do is fairly specialized and don't think there is a call for it in the rest of the Caribbean. Where are you now ?

Not sure about the Grenada residency question, doubt it. You can go to Trinidad for 30 days at a time for "business" without a visa, but after a few trips they start asking for a work permit.

Even though your work is fairly specialized, I can't picture there being a lot there for you. Unless BP or Shell has an interest in your services, it's going to be fairly limited. The local companies safety and quality programs are there purely for show and no real money or effort put into actually doing things they way the rest of the world does.

I was once on an offshore platform and witnessed a hazardous labeled container lowered onto a pirogue with an outboard. The production rigs would be shut down as unsafe if they were located anywhere else in the world.
