We have been offered an opportunity to work in Trinidad. Just would like to hear from expats about what areas they recommend to live in.. Our daughter is 11 so any advice on schools will be much appreciated. We will be working in Port of Spain.

Areas to live: Westmoorings, Goodwood Park, and maybe Shorelands.
Also look at past topics as this has been covered before.

The international school is the one most expats are in for older kids (ISPS) so look up their website and get in touch with them. The areas you want to live in are the Westmoorings area or Maraval area, and next to Westmoorings is Goodwood Park which is nice too and Victoria Gardens where there are lots of expats. In Maraval is Fairways which a lot of expats live in, and if you got a house in the southern half of Maraval it is not too far of a commute (traffic is the main issue with location). Also just past Goodwood Park in the west is Glencoe which is decent and close to the school.

Thank you for your email. Do you have children at ISPS? Have you lived in Trinidad a long time. We are expats living in Antigua. I would only move if the schools in Trinidad are better than Antigua. Crime is everywhere. We have a lot of break ins in Antigua. Is Trinidad as bad as its reputation?

Didn't know that about Antigua. Trinidad's crime is mostly in areas you won't go to, and our house has cameras and an alarm and there are neighborhood security guards that pass 24 hours a day on watch. We have been here 3 years and I only have one friend who has had a break in. Lots of expats live in apartments (La Riviera and La Fontaine and Bayshore Towers among others in that same area) so that could be an option. My son is just 4 and is in the Montessori Academy and we leave at the end of the year so not transferring him to ISPS as some do at 4. Most expats are very happy with ISPS though.
