Hi everyone,
I'm a born Trinidadian however, I left at a very young age and moved to the Bahamas then I moved to Canada. This is going to be my last year in high school and I was looking at going to post-secondary at UWI. It's been a long time since I've been to Trinidad and from what I've been reading online it doesn't seem like the best place to be but I would like someone who actually lives in Trinidad to give me a bit of advice before I move back. Also I'm planning to study to be a psychologist, is that a job in demand in Trinidad and what are my chances of living a decent and happy life back in Trinidad?

After living and going to school in Canada, you may find it difficult to readjust to the disorderliness that happens in Trinidad. But that depends entirely on yourself and the kinds of ties you have in Trinidad. Try it but don't be disappointed if the lifestyle in TnT no longer appeals to you.

If you're still on Summer break or during the Christmas break try living in TnT and see how you feel. Borrow a car and see if you can cope with the traffic conditions.

Trinidad in the past decade or less has moved from third world to first world status. More highways, more fast food restaurants (LOTS Chinese) and the 'flavour' of old Trini is fading. Not gone entirely but not as vibrant IMO as it once was. That being said lots of the old Trinidad is still there. UWI is going strong however becoming a psychologist takes lots of time and if it is your plan to go into private practice I'm not sure that a Trini salary would adequately compensate you for the years of school it would take for you to achieve your educational goal. Many are only making it financially BIG in TnT if they're able to "win" gov't contracts. Those who have traditional jobs are getting by but it can be tough slogging as prices have also risen dramatically in the last decade too. Nothing much is cheap there anymore. Crime is ridiculously high and downtown roads almost impassible if you're driving your own car. Parking can be a nightmare.
Do your relatives live near UWI? Transitioning back to TnT would be much easier if you have supportive family surrounding you. All the BEST!
I LOVE Trinidad :) :) :)
