Coming to Trinidad

We're moving to Trinidad from the UK in March, I'd really appreciate some advice please...
1. Looking at real estate on line, I wonder if it is normal to seek a discount on the asking price of rentals?
2. We have a 14 year old son and don't know whether to leave him at a boarding school in England or transfer him to the International School. Does any one have thoughts?
Many thanks, Rachel

I would definitely let your son continue his education in England if you can afford it.

As far as the rental question, it doesn't hurt to ask. When I was there, I used an agent to find a house. She did all the legwork and was able to rent it to me for 3500 TT dollars less per month than what it was advertised for.

So glad I don't live there anymore.

Never hurts to make an offer. A friend of mine started this new real estate company which is more inline with US websites (the Trini ones are not great) so check it out- she is great and will show you loads of options: www.luxerealtor.com. And when we moved here we likes this site:http://www.trinidadrealtor.com/
My son is 4.5 but i asked our expat moms group and this was one response:
I believe it's totally fine to put in your offer on rentals, we did. It's not a guarantee they will accept but I believe it's alright to ask for a discount - as for whether the son should go to school here I think that depends mostly on the child and whether he is adaptable - ISPS is a great school, if it was me I wouldn't leave a 14 year old alone behind but every family is different so that one comes down to the family but objectively it's not bad for a 14 year old to go to school
here, broadens horizons :)

By the way, if you want to join the Facebook group I mentioned PM me your name, email address associated with Facebook, and I see you are from the UK with a 14 yr old son and coming in March so will include that.
