Hello everyone,
Was hoping I can get some help and input about the moving process. I'm looking to move to Trinidad to be with my boyfriend possibly as early as May. I'm curious about how this is done legally and the embassy website doesn't really help.
I know you don't need a visa for anything less than 90 days but would I need a visa to stay longer? At what point do you apply for residency or are there green cards? Do you have to return to the US every so often?
Any advice anyone can provide about this would be greatly appreciated.

You need a visa for any stay longer than 30 days, not 90. In order to get a visa you will have to prove how you are going to support yourself.
In order to get a job, the employer has to prove that there is not a Trini that can do the job. The exception to that is in education or consulting.
The Trinidad government is unbelievably slow it can take months to get a work permit or visa.
I would think long and hard about moving there.

Thanks for the input. I'm not looking for a job in trinidad as I'm a contractor and will be working for companies outside of trinidad.

I am also interested in moving to Trinadad .. and found that when i have written to two attorneys with request for information about necessary documents they DID NOT write back ?!.. amazing? wonder why?The official website does not say if the documents must be notarized or apostilled... nothing to that effect ! I wonder if anyone knows which documents and how they must be presented are necessary? we have UK passports. thank you!

Unless you have an employment offer from a Trinidad based company it is going to be difficult to just move there because you want too. Once you have a job offer you will still spend several months working thru the visa process. Unless you know someone, getting things done with the Trinidad government is nearly impossible.

I'm hoping to do the same thing you're doing. Have you gotten any more information since this post.?
From my research, if you stay past 90 days, you'll need a visa. Please don't let your passport expire while you're there. You can gain residency/citizenship by naturalization (8 years living in TT), or by getting married to your boyfriend. Even that can take 1-4 years. You can also gain citizenship if one if your parents is a citizen.
Please share any information you may have as well.
