The impression you get of a country when on holiday will be a lot different to how it feels if you have to live there. Perhaps you should read the news in some of the online newspapers for Trinidad. While news, for any country, usually concentrates on the "bad" type at least you can get an idea of what goes on. Check this website: www.trinidadandtobagonews.com
The two main newspapers are the Express and Guardian.
