This fall I will be teaching at the University of West Indies in St. Augustine. I am debating where to look for housing -- St. Augustine area or Port of Spain. I'm from the USA, 60, active, love to sail and dive, and enjoy meeting friends for dinner. But where will I most likely find friends? Where are the expats? How's traffic?

Live in POS for sure- and you will go against traffic to St. Aug. You can join a group called InterNations to meet other expats and locals for networking.

Also go on Facebook to find groups like Adventure Seekers, the sailing club, hiking club, mountain biking club, running club, etc to meet people. Also loads of expats hang out at All Out pub and Buzz bar at One Woodbrook.

Hello,
Unfurnished houses in the Trincity area can be rented for a little under 1000 USD.
In the St. Augustine area which is 10 mins from the university itself you can get a decent unfurnished 2 br apt for around 750 USD.
My suggestion would be St. Augustine if you prefer to cut out the need for vehicle transport and walk/bike to the Uni.
Please note that walking alone around the university area after hours and late at night is not safe.
The University has free shuttles to Curepe for staff and students however i do not know how late those shuttles run.
