We just moved back to Texas after 4 years there, but that was after Brazil and Egypt so nothing really phased us there. There are tons of expats there, and more so in certain neighborhoods. Would your company be paying for everything? Trinidad has a rich culture with a mix of backgrounds (mostly African and Indian) and really delicious food and a party attitude, mostly around carnival. We never had any issues with safety nor did any friends. It is like anywhere- you stay away from certain areas. The beaches are decent but a half hour away (Maracas) but then it is only a 20 minute flight to Tobago which only costs like $50 round trip so worth going all the time. We bought a boat from a friend our last year and it was the best thing we ever did- the islands are the best thing about Trinidad. The schools are pretty good. What ages are your children? I highly recommend the Montessori Academy, which is run by an amazing lady from California, and has a great toddler room starting at 2 yrs old but they have a wait list so you have to get in there early. Also there is an expat mom's Facebook group you can join once you know you are moving there, then you can ask them all of your questions. PM me if you want any specific info.
