" We are moving to Ankara in a few months. Would love to hear from anyone with good shopping addresses, names of good restarants, clubs, good places to meet other expats (International Women''s Club?), and does anyone know if there is a good golf course near Ankara? Thanks for any info "

" Hi, I have been living in Ankara for the last three years, and like it very much. Turkey is a great country to be in. People are friendly, life is relazed. There is a branch of the American Women''s Club here, just go to the American Embassy (right down town, entrance is off of Paris Cadessi) and ask for their contact phone number etc when you get here. Or, you could call the american embassy for that info when you get here. Also, there''s a website I think at www.fawco.org or something like that you can find information for. There are a ton of restaurants in town, all over the place and when you get here people will be happy to recommend; it depends what kind of food you like to eat. There is even on Japanese restaurant that we go to that is pretty decent. There are a few big shopping malls now, though they are not typical in Turkey. There are more small shops, but there is a large street in the downtown area called Tunali Hilmi that is rife with upscale shops. Even better though is the old city called ULUS where youc an get traditional turkish stuff to decorate your home. I hope you enjoy the country! If you have any questions or would like to email/chat please don''t hesitate to contact me. I have been working on a book about living abroad and it''s about to be published this spring by a UK publisher so I have a lot of handy helpful hints for expats on the go. Regards, Michelyne Callan "

" Michelyne, Many thanks, you were much faster posting than I was in reading. Have found the above to be very exact info, although I haven''t yet been to the American Women''s club, I have been to the Canadian Club, being a Canuck myself. I love ULUS and my bartering skills learned after living for 6 years in Africa are coming in handy! Hope to meet you at one of the AWC meetings. Julie Poli "

" Hi Julie, glad you made it into town alright. Sounds like you are making your way around with little difficulty. I didn''t know you were Canadian, so am I! The Canadian women''s coffee morning club meets once a month to chat etc, and I have their contact email if you''d like it. If there''s any other information you''d like, please email me at mich_callan@altavista.net Cheers, Michelyne "
