" Hello: I have thought of moving to Ankara. Do you know if there are any/many Western practice physicans there? Also, how does health insurance work? I went to North (Turkish) Cyprus. One had to visit the few Western practice doctors at their own expense. The insurance only covered the community physicans and clinics. Can you help? Also, how is the climate? North Cyprus was HOT. Is there much greenery? North Cyprus, a nice place was full of sand and dust. There was little greenery. I would return but your description of Ankara is interesting. Alan>Mgmtdr3@aol.com "

" Hello back, I have just retired from the Detroit Public School system and am heading to Istanbul in 2 weeks to begin a job teaching English at a private school there. I have never been to Ankara, but spent time in Istanbul and think it is magic. It is right on the water and there is plenty of greenery. It gets very hot in August, but it''s not unbearable and there is always a breeze. I don''t know about the health insurance except that I can use my Blue Cross at the American hospital there and will have coverage from the school. If you are very interested I would be happy to tell you more of what I know about it and will know way more in a few weeks. Where are you now? Why Ankara? Keep in touch and I will be happy to answer any questions I can. Noreen Conklin "

" hi Alan, I am from Ankara. I have been away from there for almost 10 years now so my knowledge is not that fresh. I don''t personally know any western practise physicans living and working in Ankara, but my guess is yes ther would be some. There are some international hospitals like the American hospital, also private hospitals like Bayindir, Baskent and Sevgi may be able to accommodate foreign national physicans. There is a state health insurance system in Turkey but it is insufficient. Queues are enormous usually, so, often people go to private practices. The climate of Ankara may not suit everybody. It is more like mild desert climate in that the air is very dry. It gets hot in the summer usually above 30 (celsius). Is there much greenery... Yes there is some, a few parks in Cankaya, Dikmen, Gaziosmanpasa, small lakes in the surrounds like golbasi, Cubuk etc. But it is hard to find leafy streets unless you go to certain areas like GaziOsmanpasa and Cankaya. I think there is enough greenery but it depends on your standards of course. I live in England at the moment and find Ankara green enough. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions. regards "
