Where to move to

I am American and plan to move to Turkey to be with my fiance. He currently lives in Adana. Neither of us want to stay there. It's lovely but the climate is much to hot for our liking. We are exploring options and ask for your help in deciding where to move. We prefer cooler, drier climate, preferably in the West, near a major city but not too close. We would appreciate input from those who are familiar with a particular area or city. Thank you very much for your ideas :D

Hi there,

Re your question where to live. The whole of the Antalya region is far too hot dururing the summer months. My wife who is Turkish suggests the Black Sea region. Sinop is a major city and a beautiful place. It is also close to Istanbul & Ankara, which in the summer months gets rather hot. The Agean is a very beautiful place, but during the summer months gets very hot.

I hope this is of some help to you.

Thank you much for your reply... I have a question about the Black Sea area. My fiance had suggested that, but in my research I had the impression that it is excessively rainy and humid (almost tropical) there. What is your take on this?
Thanks in advance .. Daria

Hi there,

You are correct in what you say. However, it is neither too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter. Unfortunately, humidity levels in many parts of Turkey are increasing. You can also consider Yalova in the Marmara area or Tekirdag.

We also live in Adana. It has excellent weather in winter, fall and springtime. summers are hot but we moved to the North of the lake only 20 minutes away from the city which is much cooler. Our community has a swimming pool, we do not even use air-conditioning.
If you want really cool weather in Summer, you can drive to the mountains which have excellent housing cheap and convenient.
If you say no to Adana, Izmir, Bodrum and Fethiye have int'l airports, cool evenings, good housing. But all more expensive than Adana. Come and have a cup of tea with us. You will be our neighbours!

Thank you for you informative and friendly reply to my query :D Cost certainly is a factor next only to climate. I plan to visit (hopefully) late spring. I'll stay in touch and take you up on that cup of tea.

Hi Bonnie and Al,

I hope you don't mind if I ask a question along these lines (where to live) too! You seem to have lots of experience! I am considering getting dental treatment in Izmir and am wondering where to look for an apt(budget). Thanks for your interest .Sunny11
