Moving to Kampala to join my Ugandan girlfriend.
I have heard that when I look for an apartment or house to rent I should let her be "the face" of the deal in order to avoid higher musungu prices. (ie. Price she would get could be 200-300 USD less than I could get.)
Is that anyone's experience or information?

Hello She could be right depending on where you want to stay.. The houses that have clear cut prices are usually expensive, while those that are negotiable - well! the muzungu aspect will come into play because the assumption is that bazungu have money - remb the exchange rate has a role. However she can also 'play you.' She is 'the face' there4 can increase the rate so she gets a cut. But 'expensive' is relative - Either way you could lose
If you are interested; Check out my earlier post where I mentioned 2 houses for rent in a good neighborhood..

Hey, Well yes its very possible that you will be over charged for anything if you show up with a Muzungu. And yes as newug says its possible she could play you. Have you tried apartments? Since they have more than 1 unit it is easy to find out from the neighbors the actual cost of the house.
